Diabetes leads to hyperglycemia which is an increase in sugar levels in blood. Hyperglycemia causes hurt to kidneys, eyes and heart.
RETINOPATHY:
It is a very common cause of blindness in diabetics. It affects the blood vessels of the retina. Sometimes extra growth occurs at the back of the eye. Most of the time, people realize diabetic symptoms with blurring vision. Although it appears formidable, it is possible to prevent blindness with treatment at the right time. The growth of extra tissues leads to cataract. In the case of diabetic retinopathy, the blood vessels in the retina will leak fluid due to weak blood vessels.
In advanced cases it affects the retinal circulatory system. So, with time the oxygen that is supplied to the blood vessels reduces, making them weak and prone to hemorrhages.
The reduction in oxygen level causes a new issue. It results in the growth of new blood vessels that are weaker than the normal blood vessels. Since they are fragile, they have higher chances of hemorrhage and the leaked blood mars the vision causing blindness.
There are natural ways to prevent diabetic retinopathy, although the cure requires medical intervention.
• Frequent check-ups with ophthalmologist will ascertain the state of the eye.
• Diabetes under control poses fewer hazards. Exercise everyday to keep diabetes under control. There are eye exercises especially for persons whose jobs involve sitting in front of the computer for long hours.
